bran A hero god, protector of poetry and the underworld. Bran ("raven"), son of Llyr and Penarddun, and brother of Branwen and Manawydan. He is associated with a cauldron of regeneration which would revive the dead while leaving them voiceless. Bran's cauldron is destroyed, and he is mortally wounded in the war to rescue his sister Branwen, so he instructed his followers to decapitate him and carry the head to London and bury it, where it would become a defense and a protection to the whole Isle.
