| renal failure i. |
an assessment of acute renal failure comparing the sodium clearance with the creatinine clearance: RFI = UNaUCr /PCr , , where PCr = plasma concentration of creatinine, UCr = urinary concentration of creatinine, and UNa = urinary concentration of sodium. A value below 1.0 indicates renal failure due to prerenal azotemia and a value above 2.0 suggests that it is due to acute tubular necrosis. Cf. fractional excretion of sodium, under excretion.
