| DMN | dimethylnitrosamine; dorsal motor nucleus; dysplastic melanocytic nevus |
|---|---|
| DMNL | dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus lesion |
| DN | Deiter's nucleus; dextrose-nitrogen; diabetic neuropathy; dibucaine number; dicrotic notch; dinitroc... |
| DNLL | dorsal nucleus of lateral lemniscus |
| DNV | dorsal nucleus of vagus nerve; double-normalized value |
| sulcus nervi spinalis | <anatomy, nerve> The laterally directed groove on the superior surface of the transverse processes of typical cervical vertebrae between the anterior and posterior tubercles along which the emerging spinal nerve passes. Synonym: sulcus nervi spinalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| sulcus nervi ulnaris | <anatomy, nerve> A furrow on the posterior surface of the medial epicondyle of the humerus, lodging the ulnar nerve. Synonym: sulcus nervi ulnaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nuclei nervi cochlearis | The nucleus cochlearis dorsalis and nucleus cochlearis ventralis, located on the dorsal and lateral surface of the inferior cerebellar peduncle, in the floor of the lateral recess of the rhomboid fossa. They receive the incoming fibres of the cochlear part of the vestibulocochlear nerve and are the major source of origin of the lateral lemniscus or central auditory pathway. Synonym: cochlear nuclei, nuclei nervi cochlearis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nuclei nervi vestibulocochlearis | The combined cochlear and vestibular nuclei in the brainstem that receive the incoming fibres of the eighth cranial nerve. See: vestibular nucleus. Synonym: nuclei nervi vestibulocochlearis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| discus nervi optici | The portion of the optic nerve seen in the fundus with the ophthalmoscope. It is formed by the meeting of all the retinal ganglion cell axons as they enter the optic nerve. Because the retina at the optic disk has no photoreceptors there is a corresponding blind spot in the visual field. (12 Dec 1998) |
| trigonum nervi hypoglossi | A slight elevation in the floor of the inferior recess of the fourth ventricle, beneath which is the nucleus of origin of the twelfth cranial nerve. Synonym: trigonum nervi hypoglossi, eminentia hypoglossi, hypoglossal eminence, trigone of hypoglossal nerve, trigonum hypoglossi, tuberculum hypoglossi. (05 Mar 2000) |
| trigonum nervi vagi | A prominence in the floor of the inferior fovea of the fourth ventricle that overlies the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus. Synonym: trigonum nervi vagi, ala cinerea, ashen wing, gray wing, trigone of vagus nerve, va'gi eminentia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| abducens nucleus | Nucleus of abducent nervenucleus abducentis, a group of motor neurons in the lower part of the pons, innervating the lateral rectus muscle of the eye; unique among motor cranial nerve nuclei in that it consists of two distinct populations of neurons: neurons that give rise to fibres forming the abducens nerve root and those internuclear neurons whose processes cross the midline, ascend in the opposite medial longitudinal fasciculus, and terminate upon specific oculomotor neurons; considered a primary centre for mechanisms controlling conjugate horizontal gaze. Synonym: nucleus nervi abducentis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| accessory cuneate nucleus | A cell group lateral to the cuneate nucleus which receives posterior-root fibres corresponding to the proprioceptive innervation of the arm and hand; it projects to the cerebellum by way of the cuneocerebellar tract, and can be considered the upper-extremity equivalent of the thoracic nucleus. Synonym: nucleus cuneatus accessorius, external cuneate nucleus, lateral cuneate nucleus, Monakow's nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| almond nucleus | Almond-shaped group of basal nuclei anterior to the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle of the brain, within the temporal lobe. The amygdala is part of the limbic system. (12 Dec 1998) |
| ambiguous nucleus | A very slender, longitudinal column of motor neurons in the ventrolateral medulla oblongata; its efferent fibres leave with the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerve and innervate the striated muscle fibres of the pharynx (including the musculus levator veli palatini) and the vocal cord muscles of the larynx. Synonym: ambiguous nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| amygdaloid nucleus | Almond-shaped group of basal nuclei anterior to the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle of the brain, within the temporal lobe. The amygdala is part of the limbic system. (12 Dec 1998) |
| anterior extremity of caudate nucleus | The head or anterior extremity of the caudate nucleus projecting into the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle. Synonym: caput nuclei caudati, anterior extremity of caudate nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterodorsal thalamic nucleus | anterodorsal thalamic nucleus |
| anteromedial thalamic nucleus | anteromedial thalamic nucleus |
