[EC 4.2.2.1] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the fragmentation of hyaluronic acid via an elimination reaction in which the bond from N-acetylglucosamine to glucuronate is broken and a double bond introduced into the latter. It is one of the enzymes called hyaluronidases; see also hyaluronoglucosaminidase and hyaluronoglucuronidase.
