| piezoelectric |
(noun) A physical phenomenon exhibited by certain crystals which change their dimensions when subjected to an E-field (has an electrical field impressed across it). Conversely, when subjected to mechanical stress it creates an electrical signal. This type of transducer is the driving element in a piezoelectric impulse system and frequently is the "stimulator" in a continuous ink jet system.
