(more than one = larvae) - An early stage of life for animals that go through metamporphosis (cycle of change). With most insects, larvae hatch from eggs, then become pupae (cocoons), then become adults. With frogs, larvae (tadpoles) hatch from eggs, then slowly turn into frogs (adults). Other animals, including salamanders, mussels, and ticks have larva stages.
