| consolidation |
A period where the market trades in a broad sideways pattern within a trend. Consolidations usually follow a strong market gain or fall and occur as buyers and sellers begin digesting the recent price move. A consolidation will end with the market resuming its trend. If the consolidation ends with the market heading in the opposite direction to that before the consolidation it is has formed a top or bottom instead.
