egg white The white of an egg, especially a chicken's egg, used in cooking. It contains albumin.
(12 Dec 1998)
egg-white injury <syndrome> Dermatitis, loss of hair, and loss of muscle coordination, produced in rats by diets containing large amounts of raw egg white, the avidin of which combines with biotin producing a deficiency of the latter.
Synonym: egg-white injury.

egg-white syndrome <syndrome> Dermatitis, loss of hair, and loss of muscle coordination, produced in rats by diets containing large amounts of raw egg white, the avidin of which combines with biotin producing a deficiency of the latter.
Synonym: egg-white injury.
(05 Mar 2000)
familial white folded dysplasia An autosomal dominant condition of the oral cavity characterised by soft, white or opalescent, thickened and corrugated folds of mucous membrane; other mucosal sites are occasionally involved simultaneously.
Synonym: familial white folded dysplasia, oral epithelial nevus.

zinc white <chemical> A mild astringent and topical protectant with some antiseptic action. It is also used in bandages, pastes, ointments, dental cements, and as a sunblock.
Pharmacological action: dermatologic agents, sunscreening agents.
Chemical name: Zinc oxide (ZnO)

Lee-White method A method for determining coagulation time of venous blood in tubes of standard bore at body temperature.
(05 Mar 2000)
accessory portion of spinal accessory nerve <anatomy, nerve> The roots of the accessory nerve which arise from the medulla; the nerve fibres of the cranial root join the intracranial portion of the vagus nerve and are distributed to the pharyngeal plexus, providing the motor innervation of the soft palate (except the tensor veli palati) and the pharynx.
Synonym: pars vagalis nervi accessorii, radices craniales, accessory portion of spinal accessory nerve, cranial roots, vagal part of accessory nerve, vagal part.
(05 Mar 2000)
anterior spinal artery <anatomy, artery> Origin, intracranial part of vertebral; distribution, spinal cord and pia mater; anastomoses, spinal of intercostal and lumbar arteries.
Synonym: arteria spinalis anterior.
(05 Mar 2000)
ganglia, spinal Sensory ganglia located on the dorsal spinal roots within the vertebral column. The spinal ganglion cells are pseudounipolar. The single primary branch bifurcates sending a peripheral process to carry sensory information from the periphery and a central branch which relays that information to the spinal cord or brain.
(12 Dec 1998)
ganglion cells of dorsal spinal root Pseudounipolar nerve cell bodies in the ganglia of the dorsal spinal nerve roots; the sensory spinal nerves are composed of the peripheral axon branches of these sensory ganglion cell's, whereas the central axon branch of each such cell enters the spinal cord as a component of the dorsal root.

ventral primary rami of cervical spinal nerves See: ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve.
Synonym: rami ventrales nervorum cervicalium.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral primary rami of lumbar spinal nerves See: ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve.
Synonym: rami ventrales nervorum lumbalium.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral primary rami of sacral spinal nerves See: ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve.
Synonym: rami ventrales nervorum sacralium.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve <anatomy, nerve> The larger, anterolaterally-directed major terminal branch (with the dorsal primary ramus) of all 31 pairs of mixed spinal nerves, formed at the intervertebral foramen. Most ventral primary rami, especially those involved in the innervation of the limbs, participate in the formation of the major nerve plexuses (cervical, brachial, and lumbosacral) and lose their identities. Most in the thoracic region, however, remain separate from adjacent rami to become the intercostal and subcostal nerves. Ventral primary rami provide innervation to the anterolateral body wall and trunk. Nomina Anatomica lists ventral primary rami as "rami ventrales" for each group of spinal nerves: 1) cervical (nervorum cervicalium ), 2) thoracic (nervorum thoracicorum ), 3) lumbar (nervorum lumbalium ), 4) sacral (nervorum sacralium )m, and 5) coccygeal (nervi coccygei ).
Synonym: ramus ventralis nervi spinalis, anterior primary division.
