a benign autosomal dominant disorder characterized by exuberant and spongy whiteness of the mucous membranes, especially of the oral mucosa, with gray-white, soft, and sometimes friable lesions with fissures and folds; it reaches maximal severity at adolescence or early adulthood without further progression. Called also familial white folded mucosal dysplasia and n. spongiosus albus mucosae.
