| medial plantar nerve | <anatomy, nerve> One of the two terminal branches of the tibial nerve; it courses along the medial aspect of the sole to supply the abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis and, by way of common and proper digital branches, to innervate the skin of the medial part of the foot and medial three and one-half toes. Synonym: nervus plantaris medialis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| renal branch of vagus nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branches of vagus nerve to kidney via the coeliac plexus. Synonym: rami renales nervi vagi. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial popliteal nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The medial terminal branch of the sciatic nerve. The tibial nerve fibres originate in lumbar and sacral spinal segments (l4 to s2). They supply motor and sensory innervation to parts of the calf and foot. (12 Dec 1998) |
| medial root of median nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The part of the median nerve coming from the medial cord of the brachial plexus. Synonym: radix medialis nervi mediani. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial supraclavicular nerve | <anatomy, nerve> One of several nerves arising from the cervical plexus which supply the skin over the upper medial part of the thorax. Synonym: nervus supraclavicularis medialis, anterior supraclavicular nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial sural cutaneous nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Arises from the tibial in the popliteal space, passes down the calf between the two heads of the gastrocnemius and unites in the middle of the leg with the communicating branch of the common peroneal to form the sural nerve, distributed to the skin of the distal and lateral surfaces of the leg and ankle. Synonym: nervus cutaneus surae medialis, medial cutaneous nerve of leg, popliteal communicating nerve, tibial communicating nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial vastus muscle | <anatomy, muscle> Origin, medial lip of linea aspera; insertion, tibial tuberosity by way of common tendon of quadriceps femoris and ligamentum patellae; action, extends leg; nerve supply, femoral. Synonym: musculus vastus medialis, medial great muscle, medial vastus muscle, musculus vastus internus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| median nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A major nerve of the upper extremity. In humans, the fibres of the median nerve originate in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spinal cord (usually c6 to t1), travel via the brachial plexus, and supply sensory and motor innervation to parts of the forearm and hand. (12 Dec 1998) |
| pectineal muscle | <anatomy, muscle> Origin, crest of pubis; insertion, pectineal line of femur; action, adducts thigh and assists in flexion; nerve supply, obturator and femoral. Synonym: musculus pectineus, pectineal muscle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pectorodorsalis muscle | <anatomy> An anomalous muscle or tendinus slip that passes across the axilla from the pectoralis major to insert with the latissimus dorsi onto the humerus. Though to be a vestige of the panniculus carnosus muscle of lower mammals. Synonym: axillary arch muscle, axillary arch, pectorodorsal muscle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pectorodorsal muscle | <anatomy> An anomalous muscle or tendinus slip that passes across the axilla from the pectoralis major to insert with the latissimus dorsi onto the humerus. Though to be a vestige of the panniculus carnosus muscle of lower mammals. Synonym: axillary arch muscle, axillary arch, pectorodorsal muscle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vocal muscle | <anatomy, muscle> Origin, depression between the two laminae of thyroid cartilage; insertion, portions of vocal process of arytenoid; action, shortens and relaxes vocal cords; nerve supply, recurrent laryngeal; a number of the deeper and finer fibres of the thyroaryteroid muscle attached directly to the outer side of the true vocal cord. Synonym: musculus vocalis, musculus thyroarytenoideus internus, vocal muscle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| central core disease of muscle | <neurology> One of the conditions that produces floppy baby syndrome. It causes hypotonia (floppiness) in the newborn baby, slowly progressive muscle weakness, and muscle cramps after exercise. Muscle biopsy shows a key diagnostic finding (absent mitochondria in the centre of many type I muscle fibres). The disease is inherited as a dominant trait. The CCD gene is on chromosome 19 (and involves ryanodine receptor-1). Inheritance: autosomal dominant. (12 Dec 1998) |
| volar interosseous nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A branch of the median arising in elbow region, running on interosseous membrane, supplying the flexor pollicis longus, part of flexor digitorum profundus and the pronator quadratus muscles, as well as radiocarpal and intercarpal joints. Synonym: nervus interosseus anterior, ramus profundus nervi radialis, nervus antebrachii anterior, anterior antebrachial nerve, volar interosseous nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medullated nerve fibre | An axon enveloped by a myelin sheath formed by oligodendroglia cells (in brain and spinal cord) or Schwann cells (in peripheral nerves). Synonym: medullated nerve fibre. (05 Mar 2000) |
