| OAE |
An Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) test is a simple test to obtain general information about your hearing. A probe is placed into the ear canal, then sounds are presented. A normal cochlea (sensory organ of hearing; the inner ear) will emit a sound back in response. If no response from the cochlea is detected by the probe, then a hearing loss is suspected. This test cannot measure how much hearing loss is present; it can only tell if the cochlea is responding normally or not.
