| embryoma of the kidney | <oncology, tumour> Wilm's tumour or nephroblastoma, is a cancerous tumour of the kidney in children. The exact cause is unknown, but probably develops in foetal tissue due to an underlying genetic factor. Like retinoblastoma, both sporadic and inherited forms occur. Believed to be caused by development of homozygosity for a deletion of the tip of the short arm of chromosome 11, which is presumed to contain a tumour suppressor gene.
