| isomerization |
A change in the organization of the atoms in a molecule with no change in the constituency of the molecule. In the context of vision, isomerization usually refers to the rotation around a particular carbon (the 11 th carbon in the traditional numbering system) of the chromophore. Because this isomerization is caused by light, it is frequently referred to as photoisomerization.
