(beta pleated sheet) A secondary protein structure in which two or more extended polypeptide chains are hydrogen-bonded to one another in a planar array; the "pleats" are formed by angles of bonds in the peptide chains. In addition there is a left-handed twist between adjacent strands when looking at right angles to the strand direction. The beta strands in a sheet can be arranged to form parallel, antiparallel or mixed sheets.

a group of medications that act to block ? or ? (or both) adrenergic receptors in the nervous system. Beta-blockade slows the heart rate, reduces blood pressure and reduces anxiety.
