An altered physiological state that develops to compensate for persistent drug exposure and that gives rise to a withdrawal syndrome upon cessation of drug exposure. For a child or other person to be considered as a dependent, they must live with the student and the student must provide them with more than half of their support. Spouses do not count as dependents in the Federal Methodology. Students and their spouses cannot both claim the same child as a dependent.
