pineal A gland-like structure in brain, shaped like a pine cone. It appears to be a major site of melatonin (pigmentation) biosynthesis, but the effect of melatonin on the body and exact function of pineal remain unknown. Research shows that the pineal is exceedingly light-sensitive and may function as a seasonal "clock" affecting sleep and the gonads. The pineal gland is associated with the Christos Degree.
