superior temporal line The upper of two curved lines on the parietal bone; the temporal fascia is attached to it.
Synonym: linea temporalis superior, temporal ridge.

superior temporal sulcus The longitudinal sulcus that separates the superior and middle temporal gyri.
Synonym: sulcus temporalis superior, superior temporal fissure.
(05 Mar 2000)
superior temporal venule of retina The venule that passes from the upper lateral (temporal) part of the retina to join the central vein.
Synonym: venula temporalis retinae superior.

deep temporal artery <anatomy, artery> Deep temporal artery, two in number, anterior and posterior; origin, maxillary; distribution, temporal muscle and periosteum, bone and diploe of temporal fossa; anastomoses, branches of superficial temporal, lacrimal, and middle meningeal.
Synonym: arteria temporalis profunda.
(05 Mar 2000)
deep temporal nerves Two branches, anterior and posterior, from the mandibular nerve, supplying the temporalis muscle and periosteum of the temporal fossa.
Synonym: nervi temporales profundi.

inferior temporal arteriole of retina The branch of the central artery of the retina that passes laterally below the macula to supply the lower lateral or temporal part of the retina.
Synonym: arteriola temporalis retinae inferior.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior temporal convolution A sagittal convolution on the inferolateral border of the temporal lobe of the cerebrum, separated from the middle temporal gyrus by the inferior temporal sulcus. On the inferior surface of the temporal lobe it is separated from the medial occipitotemporal gyrus by the occipitotemporal sulcus. It includes the lateral occipitotemporal gyrus.
Synonym: gyrus temporalis inferior, inferior temporal convolution, third temporal convolution.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior temporal gyrus A sagittal convolution on the inferolateral border of the temporal lobe of the cerebrum, separated from the middle temporal gyrus by the inferior temporal sulcus.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior temporal line The lower of two curved lines on the parietal bone; it marks the outer limit of attachment of the temporalis muscle.
Synonym: linea temporalis inferior, temporal ridge.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior temporal sulcus The sulcus on the basal aspect of the temporal lobe that separates the fusiform gyrus from the inferior temporal gyrus on its lateral side.
Synonym: sulcus temporalis inferior, Clevenger's fissure.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior temporal venule of retina The small vein that passes from the lower lateral (temporal) part of the retina to enter the central vein.

temporal <anatomy> Of or pertaining to the temple or temples; as, the temporal bone; a temporal artery. Temporal bone, a very complex bone situated in the side of the skull of most mammals and containing the organ of hearing. It consists of an expanded squamosal portion above the ear, corresponding to the squamosal and zygoma of the lower vertebrates, and a thickened basal petrosal and mastoid portion, corresponding to the periotic and tympanic bones of the lower vertebrates.
Origin: L. Temporalis, fr. Tempora the temples: cf. F. Temporal. See Temple a part of the head.

temporal aponeurosis The fascia covering the temporal muscle; it is composed of two layers, lamina superficialis and lamina profunda; both attach above to the superior temporal line but diverge inferiorly to attach to the lateral and medial surfaces of the zygomatic arch.
Synonym: fascia temporalis, temporal aponeurosis.
