| myelosuppression |
Decrease in activity of the bone marrow. This causes a drop in the number of blood cells (which are made in the bone marrow), anaemia (low red blood cells), thrombocytopaenia (low platelets) and leucopaenia (low white blood cells). Myelosuppression can be a side effect of some cancer treatments.

Opening in the tissues that surround the spinal cord. It is often congenital (developmental). It is symptomatic. Surgical closure may be necessary. In some patients with open neural tube defects (spina bifida), the opening can proceed all the way through the skin.
