| discectomy |
The surgical removal of all or part of a herniated intervertebral disc compressing a nerve root. When microscopic or visually aided surgical techniques are used, this procedure is referred to as microdiscectomy. The procedure can also be done through a small incision using indirect visualization (percutaneous discectomy).
