an infant born encased in a tight membrane resembling collodion or parchment, which is subsequently shed, occasionally leaving normal-appearing skin (lamellar exfoliation of newborn or lamellar desquamation of newborn). It is usually a primary manifestation of various forms of ichthyosis, most often the lamellar type.
