a sales person who convinces investors to buy the shares of a particular public company. Promoters supply a vital service that can maintain the share price of the public company. Too often these sales persons make claims for the public company that are unjustified. The result can be an SEC investigation and the filing of criminal charges against the promoter and the principals of the public company.
