| motor apraxia |
a disturbance of voluntary movement in which one cannot use objects for the purposes for which they were designed. However, the affected individual still knows for what the object should be used. Motor apraxia is caused by lesions to the premotor cortex (an area near the middle of the brain that is important for movement) on the opposite site of the affected limb.
