mammalian adenoviruses; a genus of viruses of the family Adenoviridae that infect mammals, causing disease of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, conjunctiva, central nervous system, and urinary tract; infection may be asymptomatic. Many species induce malignancy. Human viruses are grouped into six species (AF), including two subspecies of B (B1 and B2), on the basis of structural, immunological, biological, and chemical characteristics and comprise over 50 serotypes.
