a rare pruritic dermatosis marked by the appearance of pruritic sterile pustules on the face, trunk, and extremities, which coalesce to form plaques that tend toward central clearing and residual hyperpigmentation; the lesions undergo spontaneous exacerbation and remission. Histological features include spongiosis of the follicular epithelium and leukocytic infiltration of the hair follicle sheath and perifollicular dermis, resulting in destruction of the follicle and sometimes the formation of eosinophilic abscesses.
