The wooden structure upon which the tube of a gun, howitzer, or mortar was emplaced for use. Mortars were mounted on fixed wooden beds; howitzers used wheeled trail carriages which permitted relatively high elevation; guns used field or siege carriages with two large wheels and a trail, or were mounted on naval or garrison carriages with four wheels of the same small size.
