Abrus a genus of trees of the family Leguminosae, found in warm regions. A. precato´rius L. is found in tropical and subtropical Asia and the Americas; its seed (called jequirity bean, rosary pea, or crab's eye) is used for rosary beads and jewelry but contains the toxalbumin abrin (q.v.).
