a semisynthetic antibacterial effective against a variety of gram-positive organisms, inhibiting the late phase of protein synthesis in the bacterial ribosome. It is used in conjunction with dalfopristin in the treatment of serious bacteremia caused by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and complicated skin and skin structure infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes or methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus; administered intravenously.
