| IgA d., isolated |
the most common immunodeficiency disorder: deficiency of IgA with normal levels of the other immunoglobulin classes and normal cellular immunity. It is marked by recurrent sinopulmonary infections and an increased incidence of allergy, gastrointestinal disease (celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), and autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus). Many patients have anti-IgA antibodies that can cause severe transfusion reactions.

Called also Berger's disease and IgA glomerulonephritis. Click here to view image■IgA nephropathy.
