large star-shaped or pyramidal cells with a large oval nucleus and a small prominent nucleolus. These intensely phagocytic cells line the walls of the sinusoids of the liver and form a part of the reticuloendothelial system (q.v.). Called also stellate c's of liver and von Kupffer c's. | Kurloff's (Kurlov's) bodies |
bodies seen in the large mononuclear leukocytes of guinea pigs and related rodents. Observations with the electron microscope indicate that they probably result from intracellular secretion or from a sequestering and concentration of a serum molecular component.

| Kurthia |
a genus of coryneform bacteria, consisting of gram-positive, regular, unbranched rods with rounded ends, occurring in chains and of pleomorphic forms. They have been isolated from human feces in mild cases of food poisoning and under normal conditions and from meats and meat products, and are found in the intestinal contents of chickens and in manure, stagnant water, and milk. It contains a single species, K. zopfii. Called also Proteus zenkeri.
