Arising at an unexpected location. A plant organ, like a root, shoot or bud is produced in an unusual position or during an unusual time. Examples: Layering a stem down and pegging it to the soil produces adventitious roots. An aerial root above ground is an example of adventitious roots. Ivy uses these roots for climbing.
