ventricular septal d. a congenital cardiac anomaly in which there is persistent patency of the ventricular septum in either the muscular or fibrous (membranous) portions, most often due to failure of the bulbar septum to completely close the interventricular foramen. ventricular t. an abnormally rapid ventricular rhythm with aberrant ventricular excitation (wide QRS complexes), usually in excess of 150 per minute, which is generated within the ventricle and is most commonly associated with atrioventricular dissociation. Minor irregularities of rate may also occur. Evidence implicates a reentrant pathway as the usual cause.
