Desmopressin acetate (DDAVP), a synthetic analog of arginine vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone), has a highly specific antidiuretic effect, a relatively long half-life and an extended duration of action. Desmopressin is administered through nasal insufflation. It is rapidly absorbed by the nasal mucosa and achieves maximum plasma concentration in about 45 minutes.
