| persistent mullerian duct syndrome | <syndrome> Familial disorder with presence of fallopian tube, uterus, and testis in a male. Deficient mullerian inhibitory substance secondary to Sertoli cell defect. Synonym: hernia uteri inguinale. (05 Mar 2000) |

| choledoch duct | <anatomy> A duct that carries bile from the liver and gallbladder to the duodenum (first part of the small intestine). (27 Sep 1997) |
| guttural duct | A tube leading from the tympanic cavity to the nasopharynx; it consists of an osseous (posterolateral) portion at the tympanic end, and a fibrocartilaginous (anteromedial) portion at the pharyngeal end; where the two portions join, in the region of the sphenopetrosal fissure, is the narrowest portion of the tube (isthmus); the auditory tube enables equalization of pressure within the tympanic cavity with ambient air pressure, referred to commonly as "popping of the ears". Synonym: tuba auditiva, tuba auditoria, eustachian tube, guttural duct, otopharyngeal tube, otosalpinx, pharyngotympanic tube, salpinx, tuba acustica, tuba eustachiana, tuba eustachii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cochlear duct | Spiral tube in the bony canal of the cochlea, lying on its outer wall between the scala vestibuli and scala tympani. (12 Dec 1998) |
| Wharton's duct | The duct of the submandibular salivary gland; it opens at the sublingual papilla near the frenulum of the tongue. Synonym: ductus submandibularis, ductus submaxillaris, submaxillary duct, Wharton's duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Wirsung's duct | The excretory duct of the pancreas that extends through the gland from tail to head where it empties into the duodenum at the greater duodenal papilla. Synonym: ductus pancreaticus, Hoffmann's duct, Wirsung's canal, Wirsung's duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| wolffian duct | <radiology> MALE, vas deferens, vasa efferentia Female, Gartner duct cyst, hydatid cyst of Morgagni, epoophoron, paroophoron Cf: mullerian (para-mesonephric) duct (12 Dec 1998) |
| wolffian duct carcinoma | A rare tumour of the female genital tract, most often the ovary, formerly considered to be derived from mesonephric rests. Two varieties are recognised: (1) clear cell carcinoma, so called because of its histologic resemblance to renal cell carcinoma, and now considered to be of muellerian duct derivation and (2) an embryonal tumour (called also endodermal sinus tumour and yolk sac tumour), occurring chiefly in children. The latter variety may also arise in the testis. (12 Dec 1998) |
| mullerian duct | <radiology> FEMALE, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina Male, appendix testis, prostatic utricle anomalies: mullerian agenesis most likely to be absent uterus and vagina, incomplete fusion most likely to be bicornuate/double uterus, double vagina, both associated with renal agenesis Cf: wolffian duct (12 Dec 1998) |
| craniopharyngeal duct | The slender tubular part of the hypophysial diverticulum; the stalk of Rathke's pocket. Synonym: bucconeural duct, hypophysial duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cupular caecum of the cochlear duct | The upper blind extremity of the cochlear duct. Synonym: caecum cupulare, cupular blind sac, lagena. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cystic duct | <anatomy> A bile duct that connects the gallbladder to the common bile duct. A gallstone that blocks the cystic duct can lead to inflammation and infection of the gallbladder. See: common bile duct. (27 Sep 1997) |
| cystic duct cholangiography | Radiography of the biliary system after introduction of contrast medium through the cystic duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cystic gall duct | The ductus leading from the gallbladder; it joins the hepatic duct to form the common bile duct. Synonym: ductus cysticus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| salivary duct | A type of intralobular duct found in some salivary glands that modifies the secretory product; it derives its name from extensive infolding of the basal membrane. Synonym: salivary duct, secretory duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
