cholesterol oxidase <enzyme> An enzyme that catalyses the oxidation of cholesterol in the presence of molecular oxygen to 4-cholesten-3-one and hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme is not specific for cholesterol, but will also oxidise other 3-hydroxysteroids.
