| background radiation |

The dark coating, normally on the back of a film, but sometimes between emulsion and the base, to reduce halation. The backing dye disappears during the processing.

a situation during labor in which the baby is in the posterior position, causing extreme labor pains in the back due to the position of the baby's head.
