Pasteurella a genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, ovoid to rod-shaped bacteria of the family Pasteurellaceae, made up of nonmotile fermentative organisms. Bipolar staining is common. They are parasitic on humans, wild and domestic animals, and birds, and are potential pathogens, causing abscesses and septicemias in humans and respiratory and septic infections in sheep, cattle, and fowl.
