Occam's razor (a) The notion that the simplest explanation of a problem is the preferred explanation, unless it is known to be wrong. (b) Ockham's Razor: Entia non sunt multiplicanda ("Entities are not to be multiplied"). A doctrine formulated by William of Ockham in the fourteenth century.
