Hennebert's s. rotatory nystagmus when positive or negative pressure is applied to the tympanic membrane, indicative of labyrinthitis with leakage of perilymph; positive pressure (air compression) causes nystagmus toward the affected side, and negative pressure (air rarefaction) causes nystagmus away from the affected side.
