A medicine that relaxes the smooth muscles of the airways. This allows the airway to open up (to dilate) since the muscles are not squeezing it shut. Bronchodilator medicines do not help inflammation, however.

The reduction in the diameter of the bronchi, usually because of squeezing of the smooth muscle in the walls. This reduces the space for air to go through and can make breathing difficult.
