| vena recessus lateralis ventriculi quarti | A small vein originating in the cerebellar tonsil, coursing by the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle on its way to terminate in the petrosal vein. Synonym: vein of lateral recess of fourth ventricle. (05 Mar 2000) |

| vena thoracica lateralis | <anatomy, vein> A tributary of the axillary vein that drains the lateral thoracic wall and communicates with the thoracoepigastric and intercostal veins. Synonym: vena thoracica lateralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena ventriculi lateralis medialis | A vein that drains deep portions of the parietal and occipital lobes; it runs in the medial wall of the lateral ventricle to empty into the internal cerebral vein or the great cerebral vein. Synonym: vena ventriculi lateralis medialis, medial atrial vein, medial vein of lateral ventricle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| geniculatus lateralis nucleus | The lateral one of a pair of small oval masses that protrude slightly from the posteroinferior aspects of the thalamus; its main (dorsal) subdivision serves as a processing station in the major pathway from the retina to the cerebral cortex, receiving fibres from the optic tract and giving rise to the geniculocalcarine radiation to the visual cortex in the occipital lobe. Synonym: corpus geniculatum laterale, corpus geniculatum externum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ventriculus lateralis | A cavity shaped somewhat like a horseshoe in conformity with the general shape of the hemisphere; each lateral ventricle communicates with the third ventricle through the interventricular foramen of Monro, and expands from there forward into the frontal lobe as the anterior horn as well as caudally over the thalamus as the central part or cella media which, behind the thalamus, curves ventrally and laterally, then forward into the temporal lobe as the inferior horn; from the apex of the curve a variably sized posterior horn extends back into the white matter of the occipital lobe. The large choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle invades the cella media and the inferior horn (but not the anterior and posterior horn) from the medial side. Synonym: ventriculus lateralis, ventricle of cerebral hemisphere. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis | The margin or edge of a structure which is farthest from the midline. Synonym: margo lateralis, lateral margin. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis antebrachii | An imaginary line running along the outermost extent of the forearm separating anterior and posterior surfaces laterally. Synonym: margo lateralis antebrachii, margo radialis antebrachii, radial border of forearm. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis humerii | The ridge on the humerus that extends from the greater tubercle to the lateral epicondyle. Synonym: margo lateralis humerii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis pedis | The border of the foot between the small toe and the heel. Synonym: margo lateralis pedis, margo fibularis pedis, fibular margin of foot. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis renis | The convex narrow edge separating the anterior and posterior surfaces. Synonym: margo lateralis renis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis scapulae | The edge of the scapula extending from the glenoid fossa to the inferior angle. Synonym: margo lateralis scapulae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| margo lateralis unguis | The sides of the nail extending from the proximal to the free borders. Synonym: margo lateralis unguis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| recessus lateralis ventriculi quarti | The narrow recess of the ventricle that extends laterally over, and down along the side of, the inferior cerebellar peduncle and the overlying cochlear nuclei; at its tip it opens by way of Luschka's foramen into the interopeduncular cistern of the subarachnoid space. By way of this recess, part of the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle protrudes into the subarachnoid space. Synonym: recessus lateralis ventriculi quarti. (05 Mar 2000) |
| paries lateralis orbitae | A triangular wall of the orbit formed by the zygomatic bone, the greater wing of the sphenoid bone, and a small part of the frontal bone; posteriorly it is bounded by the superior and inferior orbital fissures. Synonym: paries lateralis orbitae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| massa lateralis atlantis | The thick lateral part of the atlas on each side that articulates above with the occipital condyle and below with the axis. Synonym: massa lateralis atlantis. (05 Mar 2000) |
