[EC 2.3.2.13] an enzyme of the transferase class that creates crosslinks within and between fibrin molecules, transferring the glutamyl portion of glutamine side chains to the amino group of lysine side chains: protein-glutamine + lysine-protein = protein-glutamyl lysine-protein + NH3. The resultant polymerization of fibrin is an important part of blood clotting. It is the activated form of coagulation factor XIII (coagulation factor XIIIa). Called also transglutaminase.
