| CVII | seventh cranial nerve |
|---|---|
| CVIII | eighth cranial nerve |
| CN | caudate nucleus; cellulose nitrate; charge nurse; child nutrition; chloroacetophenone; clinical nurs... |
| CNAP | career nurse assistants' programs; compound nerve action potential |
| CNI | center of nuclear image; chronic nerve irritation |
| trigeminal ganglion | The semilunar-shaped ganglion containing the cells of origin of most of the sensory fibres of the trigeminal nerve. It is situated within the dural cleft on the cerebral surface of the petrous portion of the temporal bone and gives off the ophthalmic, maxillary, and part of the mandibular nerves. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|---|
| Troisier's ganglion | Historic term for a lymph node immediately above the clavicle, especially on the left side, that is palpably enlarged as the result of a metastasis from a malignant neoplasm; the presence of such a node indicates that the probable site of primary involvement is in an abdominal organ. See: signal node. Synonym: Troisier's node. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tympanic ganglion | A small ganglion on the tympanic nerve during its passage through the petrous portion of the temporal bone. Synonym: ganglion tympanicum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| jugular ganglion | <anatomy, nerve> The upper and smaller of two ganglia on the glossopharyngeal nerve as it traverses the jugular foramen. Synonym: ganglion superius nervi glossopharyngei, Ehrenritter's ganglion, intracranial ganglion, jugular ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| laryngopharyngeal branches of superior cervical ganglion | Branches conveying postganglionic sympathetic fibres from the superior cervical ganglion to the pharyngeal plexus. Synonym: rami laryngopharyngei ganglii cervicalis superioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Laumonier's ganglion | A small ganglionic swelling on filaments from the internal carotid plexus, lying on the undersurface of the carotid artery in the cavernous sinus. Synonym: Bock's ganglion, Laumonier's ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Frankenhauser's ganglion | A gangliated autonomic plexus on each side of the cervix of the uterus, derived from the inferior hypogastric plexus. Synonym: plexus uterovaginalis, Frankenhauser's ganglion, Lee's ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Lee's ganglion | A gangliated autonomic plexus on each side of the cervix of the uterus, derived from the inferior hypogastric plexus. Synonym: plexus uterovaginalis, Frankenhauser's ganglion, Lee's ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Froriep's ganglion | A temporary collection of nerve cells on the dorsal aspect of the hypoglossal nerve in the embryo; it represents a rudimentary sensory ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lenticular ganglion | <anatomy, neurology> Neural crest derived ganglion acting as relay between parasympathetic neurons of the oculomotor nucleus in the midbrain and the muscles regulating the diameter of the pupil of the eye. (18 Nov 1997) |
| Lobstein's ganglion | Ha small sympathetic ganglion often present in the course of the greater splanchnic nerve. Synonym: ganglion splanchnicum, Lobstein's ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| long root of ciliary ganglion | Sensory fibres passing from the eyeball through the ciliary ganglion to their cell bodies in the trigeminal ganglion via the nasociliary nerve. Synonym: radix sensoria ganglii ciliaris, ramus communicans nervi nasociliaris cum ganglio ciliari, radix nasociliaris, long root of ciliary ganglion, nasociliary root, radix longa ganglii ciliaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Ludwig's ganglion | A small collection of parasympathetic nerve cells in the interatrial septum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| abducens nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The 6th cranial nerve. The abducens nerve originates in the abducens nucleus of the pons and sends motor fibres to the lateral rectus muscles of the eye. Damage to the nerve or its nucleus disrupts horizontal eye movement control. (12 Dec 1998) |
| abducent nerve | <anatomy> The abducent nerve enervates a muscle which moves the eyeball. Lesions of the sixth cranial nerve result in deviation of the eyeball outward and double vision. Synonym: cranial nerve VI. (27 Sep 1997) |
