Medical control involves, among many responsibilities, the training of physicians, nurses, and emergency medical technicians in the prehospital phase of care, and measurement, assessment, and improvement of the EMS system's performance. If medical control is located at one hospital, the hospital is called a resource hospital; other hospitals in the system are associate hospitals.
