common iliac lymph nodes Nodes located in association with the common iliac vein; they are subdivided into five groups: intermediate (anterior) common iliac lymph nodes, between the common iliac artery and vein; lateral common iliac lymph nodes lateral to the vein; medial common iliac lymph nodes, medial to the vein; promontory common iliac lymph nodes at the sacral promontory; and subaortic common iliac lymph nodes, at the bifurcation of the aorta; they all receive afferent vessels from the external and internal iliac nodes and send efferent vessels to the lumbar nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici iliaci communes.
(05 Mar 2000)
companion lymph nodes of accessory nerve The nodes of the lateral deep cervical group that are located along the accessory nerve; their efferent vessels pass to the supraclavicular lymph nodes.
Synonym: companion lymph nodes of accessory nerve, nodi lymphatici comitantes nervi accessorii.
(05 Mar 2000)
plastic lymph Inflammatory lymph that has a tendency to become organised.
(05 Mar 2000)
corpuscular lymph Lymph containing a relatively large number of leukocytes, but comparatively little fibrinogen; such lymph does not form a good clot and manifests only a slight tendency to become organised.
Synonym: corpuscular lymph.
(05 Mar 2000)
popliteal lymph nodes Two groups of nodes located in the popliteal fossa: the superficial popliteal lymph nodes, located around the termination of the small saphenous vein, that drain the skin of the back of the leg and lateral side of the foot; and the deep popliteal lymph nodes, located around the popliteal vessels, that drain the superficial group, the deep structures of the leg, and the knee joint.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici popliteales.
(05 Mar 2000)
posterior group of axillary lymph nodes Node's of the axillary region located along the subscapular vein and its tributaries; they receive afferent vessels from the dorsal surface of the thorax and scapular region, and send efferent vessels to the central group of lymph nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici axillares subscapulares, posterior group of axillary lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
posterior mediastinal lymph nodes Nodes located along the thoracic aorta; they receive vessels from the oesophagus, diaphragm, liver and pericardium and send efferents to the thoracic duct and bronchomediastinal lymphatic trunk(s).
Synonym: nodi lymphatici mediastinales posteriores.
(05 Mar 2000)
croupous lymph A form of inflammatory lymph with an unusually large content of fibrinogen; as a result of the fibrin that is formed in relatively dense mats, a pseudomembrane is likely to be produced.
(05 Mar 2000)
cubital lymph nodes Two groups of nodes, superficial and deep, lying along the basilic vein above the medial epicondyle; they receive afferents from the ulnar side of the forearm and hand, and send efferents to the brachial nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici cubitales, epitrochlear nodes, lymph nodes of elbow.
(05 Mar 2000)
preauricular deep parotid lymph nodes Small lymph nodes located deep to the parotid fascia and in front of the ear.
Synonym: preauricular deep parotid lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
precaecal lymph nodes Nodes located in front of the caecum draining lymph to the ileocolic nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici precaecales.
(05 Mar 2000)
prelaryngeal lymph nodes Lymph nodes of the anterior deep cervical group that lie in front of the larynx; they drain into the lateral deep lateral cervical nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici prelaryngeales.
(05 Mar 2000)
prepericardiac lymph nodes Several small lymph nodes located between the pericardium and the sternum, in the anterior mediastinum.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici prepericardiales.
(05 Mar 2000)
pretracheal lymph nodes Lymph nodes of the anterior deep cervical group that lie in front of the trachea; they drain into the lateral deep cervical group or into the anterior mediastinal group.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici pretracheales.
(05 Mar 2000)
prevertebral lymph nodes Lymph nodes posterior to the thoracic aorta.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici prevertebrales.
