Tissue-equivalent material placed in contact with the irradiated area to provide, with the beams, an increase in the dose to the skin or a reduction of the beam. With electron beams, boluses are generally used to correct surface irregularities or to give the depth of the dose distribution a shape adapted to the anatomical structures to be protected or irradiated.
