esthesioneuroblastoma A malignant olfactory neuroblastoma arising from the olfactory epithelium of the superior nasal cavity and cribriform plate. It is uncommon (3% of nasal tumours) and its aetiology is unknown. The type and extent of primary therapy depends on tumour size and location. Generally early-stage disease is treated with a single modality approach such as complete excision. Adjuvant radiotherapy is used for extensive tumours or for tumours where microscopic residual disease is suspected. It has a high propensity for multiple local recurrences.
