a genus of trees and shrubs of the family Caprifoliaceae. V. o´pulus is the cranberry bush or tree, whose dried bark is medicinal; see cramp bark, under bark. V. prunifo´lium L. is the black haw, whose root and stem have bark that has been used as a uterine sedative.
