| vesicular exanthema of swine virus | The type species of the genus calicivirus, an RNA virus infecting pigs. The resulting infection is an acute febrile disease which is clinically indistinguishable from foot and mouth disease. Transmission is by contaminated food. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|---|
| vesicular exanthema | An extinct disease of swine caused by vesicular exanthema virus of swine, a member of the family Caliciviridae; it closely resembled foot-and-mouth disease and, in swine, was characterised by fever, loss of weight, and vesicles on the snout, tongue, and feet. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vesicular exanthema of swine | A calicivirus infection of swine characterised by hydropic degeneration of the oral and cutaneous epithelia. (12 Dec 1998) |
| equine coital exanthema virus | <veterinary, virology> A herpesvirus causing coital exanthema in male and female horses. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vesicular stomatitis-indiana virus | The type species of vesiculovirus causing a disease symptomatically similar to foot-and-mouth disease in cattle, horses, and pigs. It may be transmitted to other species including humans, where it causes influenza-like symptoms. (12 Dec 1998) |
| vesicular stomatitis virus | <virology> Rhabdovirus causing the disease soremouth in cattle. Widely used as a laboratory tool especially in studies on the spike glycoprotein as a model for the synthesis, post translational modification and export of membrane proteins. (18 Nov 1997) |
| swine vesicular disease virus | <virology> A porcine enterovirus causing vesicular disease in swine. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Boston exanthema | A viral disease resembling exanthema subitum, with the exanthema, if it develops, appearing after the fever has subsided; it is caused by strain 16 of ECHO virus. Origin: after the city in which an epidemic occurred (05 Mar 2000) |
| epidemic exanthema | A mild febrile illness of humans in Australia characterised by polyarthralgia and rash, caused by the Ross River virus, a member of the family Togaviridae, and transmitted by mosquitoes. Synonym: epidemic exanthema, Murray Valley rash, Ross River fever. (05 Mar 2000) |
| equine coital exanthema | <veterinary> A disease of horses caused by equine herpesvirus 3 and characterised by pustular and ulcerative lesions on the vaginal and vestibular mucosa and on the skin of the penis, prepuce, and the perineal region. (05 Mar 2000) |
| exanthema | <dermatology> Exanthem, an eruptive disease or its symptomatic eruption. (18 Nov 1997) |
| exanthema subitum | An acute, short-lived, viral disease of infants and young children characterised by a high fever at onset that drops to normal after 3-4 days and the concomitant appearance of a macular or maculopapular rash that appears first on the trunk and then spreads to other areas. It is the sixth of the classical exanthematous diseases and is caused by hhv-6 (herpes virus 6, human). (12 Dec 1998) |
| keratoid exanthema | A symptom occurring in the secondary stage of yaws: patches of fine, light coloured, furfuraceous desquamation, scattered irregularly over limbs and trunk. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vesicular | 1. Composed of or relating to small, saclike bodies. 2. Pertaining to or made up of vesicles on the skin. Origin: L. Vesicula = a little bladder (18 Nov 1997) |
