to 25 mL of water add 10 mg of aminoacetic acid. To 1 mL of this solution add a solution of 50 mg of sodium acid in 2 mL of water, then add 0.2 mL of a solution of 5 mg of triketohydrindene hydrate (Ninhydrin) in 1 mL of water. Add the suspected matter and boil for 12 minutes. A violet color indicates a free carboxyl and alpha-amino group in proteins, peptones, peptides, or amino acids.
