영문 ear drum 한글 고막
설명   
  고막은 소리를 전달하는 바깥귓 길의 끝에 위치하는 원형에 가까운 타원형의 얇은 막으로서 크기는 가로 9~10mm, 세로 8~9mm, 두께 약 0.1mm정도이다. 몸의 중심축에 비하여 앞쪽으로 기울어져 있으며, 고막의 면은 평평하지 않고 안쪽으로 약간 오목하게 들어가 있고 그중에 가장 많이 들어간 부위를 배꼽이라고 한다. 외관상으로 진주빛같은 회백색 또는 담홍색의 빛나는 반투명 막으로 100mmHg 압력에 견딜 수 있다.
  
  이 고막은 귀속에 있는 작은 뼈인 3개의 귓속뼈 중에서 가장 바깥쪽의 것인 망치뼈와 부착되어 있기 때문에 고막의 표면은 약간 울퉁불퉁하게 되어 있다. 망치뼈의 짧은 돌기가 고막의 위로 돌출하며, 이 돌기에서 앞뒤로 달리는 전-후 망치뼈주름이 있고, 이에 의해 고막이 위아래로 이분된다. 위쪽은 이완부이고 아래쪽은 긴장부이다. 그리고 바깥귀길에서 고막을 관찰하기 위해서 빛을 비출 경우에 그 빛이 반사되는 부분이 생기는데 그것을 빛원뿔이라고 한다. 바깥귓길에서 들어온 소리의 에너지는 대부분 고막으로 전달되고, 여기서 다시 가운데귀로 전달된다.

  귀는 바깥의 바깥귀, 그리고 음을 전달하는 가운데귀 그리고 전달된어진 소리를 신경이 알아들을 수 있도록 바꿔주는 기능을 가진 속귀, 이 3가지로 구분된다.
  
  바깥귀는 그냥 밖에서 보이는 부분이며, 외이는 바깥 2/3는 연골로 구성되어 있고 안쪽 1/3은 뼈로 구성되어 있다.

  귀는 바깥의 바깥귀, 그리고 음을 전달하는 가운데귀, 전달된 음을 신경이 알아들을 수 있도록 바꿔주는 기능의 속귀, 이 3가지로 구분되어 진다. 가운데귀는 고막에서부터 속귀까지 연결되는 곳까지인데 여기에 3가지의 조그마한 뼈가 있어 고막에 울린 음이 속귀까지 전해지도록 해준다. 이때 이 뼈들과 고막의 작용으로 귀에 들린 음은 약 21배정도의 확대효과가 나타난다. 속귀는 이렇게 해서 전해진 음을 코르티 기관에 의해서 신경이 알아 들을 수 있는 신호 전달체계로 바꾸어 뇌에 전해주는 역할을 한다.

설명   
  귀는 오감의 하나인 청각을 받아들여 소리를 듣고, 회화를 이해하는 중요한 생활정보의 입력 장소이다. 신체의 평형감각을 담당하는 중요한 전정, 반고리관이 있어서 인간이 일상생활을 영위하는 데에 매우 중요한 기능을 하는 곳이다. 어떤 이유로 이들 기능이 떨어지면 난청이나 귀울음, 또는 현기증, 비틀거림 등의 평형장애가 나타나고, 심각한 정보장애가 일어나므로 충분한 주의가 필요하다.
  
  귀는 크게 바깥귀, 가운데귀, 속귀의 3부분으로 나누는데 바깥귀라고 하는 것은 소리를 고막까지 전달하는 외이도부분을 말한다. 그리고 중이란 고막에서 내이 사이의 공간으로 여기에는 고막의 진동을 소리를 느끼는 달팽이(cochlea)까지 전달해 주는 작은 뼈인 3개의 귓속뼈(ossicle)이 있는 곳이다. 속귀란 소리를 직접 느끼는 기관인 달팽이, 평행감각을 담당하는 반고리관, 구형낭(saccule), 타원낭(utricle)이 있는 곳을 말한다.

tympanic membrane perforation An opening in the tympanic membrane usually caused by trauma. There are four general categories: compression injuries (the most common and usually the result of a blow to the ear); instrumentation injuries (the second most common, usually inadvertent, caused often by cotton swabs or bobby-pins); burn-slag injuries (frequently seen in industry, from hot metal from machines or welding); and blast injuries (usually seen during war or as a result of terrorist bombing). In the absence of infection, most traumatic tympanic membrane perforations heal spontaneously. Persistent perforation is usually a manifestation of tubotympanitis, an inflammation of the eustachian tube and tympanic cavity (middle ear).
